REGISTER NOW for the St. Vincent de Paul Friends of the Poor Walk on September 2020!
St. Vincent de Paul conference will be conducting its annual “Friends of the Poor Walk” differently this year. Because of the current unusual circumstances instead of our typical gathering together on a Saturday morning for a walk around Algonquin’s neighborhoods and walking paths we are offering an alternative.
We are requesting that each of you take the time with trusted family and friends to take a nice walk sometime during the month of September as your personal commitment to participate in the Society’s “Friends of the Poor Walk”. If you can’t or would prefer not to be out and about, you can still participate by saying a prayer for Society and those in need and making a donation. Each year this event has been one of our bigger fund raisers and allows us to continue the Society’s mission to assist those in need in our community. If you can please, continue to support this “Friends of the Walk” with a donation.
The Friends of the Poor Walk is one of the major fundraisers sponsored by Saint Margaret Mary St. Vincent de Paul. Walkers collect pledge money from family members, friends, and neighbors. All monies raised by Saint Margaret Mary walkers go directly to our St. Vincent de Paul treasury to assist families in need in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.
Throughout the last two years, our conference spent approximately $100,000 in the community to help residents pay for food, rent, utility bills, gasoline, and insurance. We also help people identify other local resources to assist in finding employment and housing.
Your support of the Walk for the Poor will be used in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills to provide direct service to those who need help and support. Our program strives not only to assist those in need but also to find resources to enable our friends in need to live more self-sustaining and fulfilling lives. What’s more, 100% of funds raised by walker pledges will go directly to serve the poor in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.
